A Message to the Alumni

It is our pleasure to introduce to you the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo (AAFL) and invite the alumni to join the Association.
The AAFL was established in March 1998. It is the official body of the alumni of the Faculty of Law that links the alumni with the Faculty, including its staff and students. AAFL was formed toachieve several objectives and amongst them are the promotion of fellowship among the alumni of the Faculty of Law;the promotionof the welfare of the alumni, staff and students of the Faculty; providing assistance to the Faculty in the development of its curricula and teaching methodologies. We invite you to view the Constitution of AAFL made available to you on this website for further information.
After being dormant for quite some time, the AAFL was revived in 2021 with the appointment of Mr. Mohamed Illiyas, President’s Counsel, as its President. Despite the unfavorable conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association was able to kick start its activities by conducting a few programmers to assist the undergraduates. AAFL also established its logo and created a social media presence towards speedy and effective dissemination of information. Its website was formally launched in May 2022.

In 2021/22 AAFL conducted a successful Webinar Series in collaboration with the Faculty’s Career Guidance Unit. Many who have excelled in their respective professions and careers participated and shared their experience with the students, providing them a glimpse of future career prospects. This webinar series, hosted on the learning platform of the Faculty of Law is available for the guidance of all students present and future.

On a few occasions in the past too, AAFL had conducted career guidance workshops. AAFL believes that providing career guidance, providing access to internships and mentorships should continue to be on its agenda.

In January 2022 AAFL established the “AAFL Education Trust” to advance the knowledge and education of the less privileged undergraduates of the Faculty by providing scholarships, equipment, facilities, accommodation and/or general economic support.
AAFL closely works with the staff of the Faculty of Law to develop and deliver programmes that benefit the students. AAFL hopes that students will actively participate in the programmes offered by AAFL andinvites the students to continue to give AAFL their constructive feedback to ensure that AAFL remains relevant, useful and meets its stated objectives.

The Executive Committeecordially invites all past graduates of the Faculty to obtain lifemembership of the Association and actively engage in its activities, thereby providing your fullest cooperation and contribution for the achievement of the objectives of AAFL, which no doubt would be personally fulfilling to all alumni of the Faculty of Law.

Sincerely Yours,
Executive Committee of AAFL
